Fees and Rebates

Consultation Fees

Each Practitioner sets their own fees and payment processes.
Please check with your practitioner before your first appointment.

Bulk-billing or concession fee

Depending on capacity, our psychologists may offer a proportion of their clients a reduced-rate fee, or bulk-billing. Availability of this reduced fee or bulk-billing is usually limited and, if there is availability, depends on client financial circumstances (for example, clients who are pensioners, unemployed, or on government benefits may be eligible). You should ask your psychologist what fee applies to you at your initial intake interview over the phone. If no prior arrangement has been made, the prevailing full fee will apply, which will vary as each of our psychologists runs their own independent practice and set their own fees.

Payment

Payment is required at the end of your consultation, usually via EFTPOS or credit card, unless prior arrangements have been made with your practitioner.

Provisional Psychologists - Offering Reduced Fees

Capital Clinical Psychology sometimes hosts students doing their final placements under their Clinical Masters program. These Provisional Psychologists are unable to offer Medicare rebates or bulk-billing, however we do offer services as a considerably reduced rate. To see if we currently have any provisional psychologists, see our consulting room practitioner page. The fees will be listed under the provisional psychologist’s profile.

Medicare and Private Health Insurance Rebates

Our psychologists and our mental health social worker are registered with Medicare to provide clinical “Psychological Therapy” items. This means that clients referred by their GP or psychiatrist with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) may receive a Medicare rebate of $145.25 per session (clinical psychologist) or $98.95 (general registered psychologist). Not all presentations are covered by Medicare, so you should discuss your eligibility with your psychologist.

No further sessions are claimable in the calendar year under Medicare after these 10 have been exhausted and you would need to fund any ongoing sessions without a Medicare rebate.

In terms of Private Health Insurance, if you have exhausted your Medicare rebates, you may be eligible for private health insurance rebates. Please check with your private health fund to confirm if any rebates are available to you. You may claim either Medicare or a private health fund rebate, NOT both.

Psychological Reports and Letters

Psychological reports and letters are charged separately based on an hourly rate, and attract a GST component. Please note that all reports and letters must pre-paid before they will be released. There is usually at least a 10 business day turnaround for the preparation of reports but this will depend on the practitioner and the report requirements.

Supervision Services

Clinical supervision is offered by a number of our psychologists, including Dr Cristian Torres. Supervision fees attracts a GST component (note that supervision attended for training purposes – such as while undertaking a Registrar Program – does not attract GST). Preparation and review of supervision plans and review reports are charged separately based on the hourly supervision rate.

Cancellation Policy

Your appointment time has been reserved especially for you. This means that somebody else cannot have this appointment. If for some reason you are unable to attend your appointment, please advise your practitioner as soon as possible so that it they can try to reallocate it.

Late cancellation fees.

Most practitioners require a minimum of 24 hours notice for cancellations (excluding weekends) but always check your practitioner’s policy as this can vary.

Cancellations received after close of business on Friday will be considered received on Monday morning.

For example, if you wish to cancel a Monday 10am appointment, you need to cancel prior to 10am on Friday to avoid the late cancellation fee.

If you cancel with less than your practitioner’s required notice period, and your practitioner is unable to fill your appointment off their waitlist, the relevant late cancellation fee will apply.
