About Dr Kristi Heffernan

Dr Kristi Heffernan is a registered psychologist with AHPRA and holds area of practice endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist. She has over 20 years’ experience working as a psychologist. She has worked for Defence, Phoenix Australia, the Australian National Centre for Posttraumatic Health, and in private practice. She holds a Master of Clinical Psychology (ANU, 2004) and a PhD in Clinical Psychology (UNSW, 2020). Her doctoral research was focused on the cognitive mechanisms involved in adjustment following military deployments.

Kristi has trained in specific modalities to treat Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), including Prolonged Exposure therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and other trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approaches. She has also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Schema Therapy.

She treats adults who present with issues associated with trauma, depression, anxiety, attention-related problems, stage of life issues and career transition. She enjoys assisting adults whose mental health may have been impacted by their work or their changing circumstances. She is also available for supervision.
