About Dr Cristian Torres

Dr Cristian Torres is the Founding Director at Capital Clinical Psychology. He is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and holds a PsyBA Area of Practice Endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist. Cristian is also a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and a Fellow of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.

Cristian completed his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Australian National University and has over 25 years of extensive experience in private practice and as psychologist in various organisations. These include the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), where his experiences include deployments to critical incidents such as the Jakarta Australian Embassy bombing (2004), the Asian Tsunami disaster in Phuket (2005), and the Yogyakarta plane crash (2007).

In addition, Cristian also worked in ACT Mental Health in the Psychiatric Services and the Drug and Alcohol units, and was the principal psychologist at ACT Corrective Services, where he established new psychological services for sex and violent offender rehabilitation in Canberra’s new prison, the Alexander Maconochie Centre.

Cristian is passionate about the profession of psychology and has served on the Psychology Board of Australia’s Regional Board for ACT, Tasmania, and Victoria for seven years, including as Chair from 2010 to 2017. Before pursuing his psychology studies, Cristian served in the Australian Regular Army.

Cristian is committed to delivering evidence-based psychological interventions, primarily from a cognitive-behavioural perspective, but he may combine this with other therapeutic approaches based on individual client needs. He believes the best outcomes are achieved through a combination of therapeutic interventions. Cristian strives to empower his clients with the tools to make positive changes in their lives and achieve successful outcomes.

Cristian works with adults and some adolescents, with a particular interest in supporting military and emergency service personnel with PTSD. Additionally, he collaborates with the legal profession to provide legal and forensic psychological reports for the court, and provides professional supervision to clinical registrars and provisional psychologists on their final Master of Psychology placements.
